End of Year $40K Matching Campaign At midnight on GivingTuesday -- November 27, 2018, Torat Emet will officially launch our End of the Year Matching Campaign, and we need your continued support! Thanks to the leadership and generosity of Don and Eydie Garlikov and an anonymous donor, we are excited to announce that this year Torat Emet’s annual End of the Year matching campaign will offer a 3 to 1 match! That means that every $250 donated will translate to a $1,000 gift, and every $500 donated will translate to $2,000 to the shul. We need to raise $40,000 to make the quadruple match and allow us to continue to provide these and other costly services.
Torat Emet continues to be a leader for spiritual, educational, social and family programming in the Columbus Jewish community. Our annual calendar is full of something for everyone, from adult education and family programs to spiritual events and everything in between, there is something at Torat Emet for everyone! Please show us that you value these events, programs and services provided by Torat Emet by visiting our website, www.toratemet.org, on Tuesday and making your pledge!
Don’t want to wait until November 27th to make your pledge? Please let us know that you value these events, programs, services and the peace of mind provided by Torat Emet and click hereto make your gift now!
Your generosity and support is what keeps our synagogue community strong, thank you for all you do!
Warm Regards,
Howard Michael Rabbi Howard Zack. Dr. Michael Blumenfeld Rabbi President
Security Updates
As talks about security continue on the national, local and synagogue level, Torat Emet leadership continues to work with local law enforcement to review our security needs and protocols, and will provide updates when appropriate. Know that above all else, the safety of our congregants, guests and staff are the priority for us on Shabbat and all through the week. We are gratified to see that as synagogues across Columbus and around the country update their communities on their security protocols, many of them are just now bringing their processes up to the quality and standard that Torat Emet has been operating under for years. In fact, we have received kudos from local law enforcement on the quality of our recent security enhancements, both visible and behind the scenes.
During the week, we will continue to have the building locked securely. On Shabbat, we will be limiting access to the building further, with all doors locked at all times except on Shabbat morning, where the Northeast (Main Street) set of glass doors are staffed with professional security. Those coming to daven with us on Friday and Saturday evenings will be granted building access as they arrive.
On Friday nights (with the exception of special event weekends -- such as this one -- where services will be held in the main sanctuary) the building will be accessed only through the main parking lot entrance door, and on Saturday evenings through the Northeast (Main Street) glass door into the social hall. Again, please remember that these doors will remain locked, and access will be granted manually for the time being. We ask that you please be patient with this process. We appreciate everyone's concern for security, and are working diligently to be as safe as possible.
Here's how you can help:
1) Exercise heightened situational awareness -- IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING!
2) Be part of a volunteer security team for Shabbat and other times; please let the office know if you are interested in and able to do this. More details will be provided as they develop.
3) Please escort your children to groups or into synagogue with you. At all times, make sure your children are in a safe place and attended to. Our security guard is there to do a job, and distractions can be costly. Let's keep our children in groups or with you in shul, so our professional security staff can focus on their responsibilities.
4) We are fortunate that Jewish Columbus' Jewish Community Relations Committee is sponsoring several Community Security Forums to educate on crisis response and discuss individuals concerns about the safety of our community institutions. Please see the information below and register to attend the forum that is convenient for you.
JewishColumbus’ Jewish Community Relations Committee is proud to sponsor ‘Community Security Forums’ to educate on crisis response and hear your concerns about the safety and security of our institutions.
These forums will provide security training and situational-preparedness opportunities led by experts. The aim is to prepare our institutions for emergencies, threats, and other dangerous situations that may arise in virtually any institutional setting.
These forums will be held across the city to ensure that the entire community has a chance to attend and have their voices heard.
Wednesday December 5 7:00– 8:30p Temple Beth Shalom 5089 Johnstown Rd. New Albany, OH 43054
These forums are free and open to the public but RSVPs are requested Click HERE to register
