Ma'agalim Community Event Wednesday, September 6, 8:00 PM with special guest speaker Shira Hershkovitz
Shira (far right) and her Ma'agal Balev Madricha (middle)
Shira was born to an ultra-Orthodox parents. Living through a divorce, a mom not being able to feed her many children, witnessing physical abuse, suffering emotional abuse and being thrown out on the streets, afraid for her life. And all of these events and many more, occurred before Shira was 16 years old. But, against all the odds, Shira survived and is stronger today becuase of Ma'agalim's life-changing programs. Of her mentor in the Ma'agalim program, Shira said: "It is hard for me to tell you what Nitzan was for me during this period. She saved my life. She never stopped believing in me - telling me the good she sees in me."
This past May, during our YY50 Mission to Israel, 18 members of Torat Emet visited the Ma'agalim program at the Eretz HaZvi High School in Jerusalem that we established last year through a matching grant with Don & Eydie Garlikov.
Members of the Torat Emet YY50 Mission at
Ma’agalim school in Jerusalem
Ma'agalim is an Israeli non-profit organization that works with at risk high school teenagers in low performing school districts who lack the self-esteem and positive reinforcement necessary to succeed as adults. Ma'agalim trains and provides highly spirited, post-military volunteers who function as advisors and counselors to these teens. These advisors make a deep connection with and have strong impact on struggling 11th and 12th graders though in-school sessions and after school projects and activities.
With your help we can continue to support this vital program.
Shabbat with a Rocket Scientist (& Torah Scholar)!
Ari Sacher is a Rocket Scientist, and has worked in the design and development of ‎missiles for over twenty years. He has briefed nearly one half of the US Congress on ‎Israeli Missile Defense, including briefings on Capitol Hill at the invitation of the ‎House Majority Leader. He speaks regularly for the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Dr. ‎Sacher is a highly requested speaker at AIPAC events, enabling even the layman to ‎understand the "rocket science", and his speaking events are regularly sold-out.‎
Ari has also been a scholar in residence in numerous synagogues in the USA and ‎Canada. He is a riveting speaker, using his experience in the defense industry to ‎explain the Torah in a way that is simultaneously enlightening and entertaining.‎
Ari studied at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh, and publishes a weekly parasha shiur that is ‎read around the world. ‎

Looking for G-d in All the Wrong Places Keynote Address by Ari Sacher Many people saw the "Hand of G-d" in the performance of "Iron Dome" during the Operation Protective Edge, especially in a highly publicized incident in which the system failed to operate and G-d "stepped in". Through this we'll try to understand what Iron Dome does and what a "miracle" really is.
Shabbat Morning The Best Offense is a Good Defense Shabbat Morning Drasha by Ari Sacher Yaakov Avinu had two names, Yaakov and Yisrael. Each of these names came with a persona. Yisrael signifies majesty, while Yaakov signifies subterfuge. There are two ways to win a war: attack and defence. Missile Defense Systems, while hugely successful, are only one part of the equation.
