Safety & Security Corner
We hope that everyone who was able to attend found the Community Security Service (CSS) Entry Point training session on January 31, 2023, to be informative and valuable. That session made an important point: we, as members of Torat Emet, and the Columbus Jewish community in general, are in the best position to recognize things that are “out of the ordinary” and thus warrant paying attention to and reporting to our security personnel and team. Similarly, we were pleased that during the break-out sessions congregants recognized opportunities to further improve our security stance. We listened to what was said, and we received very helpful feedback afterwards. We encourage you to keep reaching out to us if you find additional opportunities for improvement.
We are continuing conversations with CSS regarding potential next-steps. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Shabbat Shalom!
Thank you to to for partnering with us to provide our security for Shabbat and Holidays
Synagogue Announcements
Jewish Family Services is organizing a Passover Drive to help families and individuals in need. With the support of JewishColumbus,a Kroger gift card will be included. If you or someone you know could benefit from this assistance, please call the Torat Emet office or tell Rabbi Zack asap. Deadline to request is tomorrow, Friday, February 17.
As we approach the joyous celebration of Purim, I wish to remind you of the central importance of providing support for those who do not have the funds to make a proper Purim seudah. It is important that you fulfill the mitzvah of matanot l’evyyonim by giving tzedakah to at least two needy individuals on Purim. If you cannot, or are uncomfortable giving directly to a local person, you can make a donation to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund and I will distribute a portion of those contributions locally on Purim day. I will also send a portion to several established institutions in Israel that provide for hungry and needy Israeli families and children.
Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried in the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch writes, “It is better [and more praiseworthy] to increase the amount of money given for matanot l’evyyonim than to enlarge one’s Purim meal or increase the amount of mishloach manot that one send’s to friends; for there is no greater joy and splendor before the Holy One Blessed is He than to gladden the heart of the poor, the orphaned and the widowed.” (142:1)
