Sukkah Rebuild Effort

  
Yesterday!                                 Today!!   

As some of you know, the shul's sukkah frame suffered catastrophic damage overnight Tuesday into Wednesday due to the storms that passed through. With heroic effort Jorge, our new employee Diana Gonzalez Borbon, Rabbi Zack and volunteer member Noah Katz worked diligently all day on Wednesday pulling the mangled mess apart and scrambling to find the needed building materials to rebuild the sukkah frame.

Special shout outs to Loeb Electric for having the 60 metal poles that we needed, to Sam Nutis for cutting the poles to size in the Nutis Press metal shop, to Stu Appelbaum and his pickup truck for transporting the material, and to Marcia and Avrom Epstein for their ladder and volunteer help.

Jorge and Diana have been hard at work today rebuilding the sukkah frame so we will have a place for our Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur outdoor services.

What an amazing 24-hour effort!

High Holidays at Torat Emet

                                    Ushers Needed!
Dear members

As the holidays approach, we are reminded of the importance of being an open and welcoming community as well as a safe one.  We are in the process of scheduling our ushers for the holidays, but need your help!
We work hard to keep usher shifts to 1 hour.  If you are willing to help with this important role, please use the following link to enter your name into one or more time slots. Many of the time slots for the men's side are still open:

                                 Pruzbul Information
At the end of the seventh year of the Sh’mitah cycle (in the current cycle, prior to Rosh Hashana 5783, which will occur at sundown on September 25, 2022), all loans are automatically nullified. One who wishes to collect loans after the Sh’mitah year must make a Pruzbul before the time that the loans are nullified. Typically, this is done during the month of Elul. Please see the attached Pruzbul form with instructions for more information

As we enter the new year, we want to reiterate our commitment to caring for you and your family. In addition to ensuring our physical safety, your generosity nourishes our community’s soul. Together, we do this by:  
 
Assisting Jews in need across the globe 
From Columbus to Ukraine and from South America to Israel, Jews face poverty, persecution and uncertainty.  Our local Holocaust Survivors Initiative and partnerships with international organizations help our fellow Jews across the globe –the need still is great. 
 
Creating inclusive spaces for everyone 
We established and fully funded the Jewish Community Disabilities Inclusion Director, and in partnership with the JCC, are building an inclusive Jewish community for children of all abilities.  
 
Cultivating Jewish leadership for the next generation  
Young Jewish Columbus (YJC)'s exciting programming engages our under-40 community members, and Leadership JewishColumbus (LJC) prepares them to lead. Already, 100% of our 30 participants have been placed on agency, synagogue and JewishColumbus boards and committees.  
 
Instilling Jewish pride in our kids 
Studies prove that overnight Jewish camp instills Jewish pride and fosters deep attachments to the Jewish community. This year, we sent 120+ kids to camp and we know costs keep increasing.   
 
Ensuring Jewish tomorrows by building a legacy  
Our LIFE & LEGACY Program aims to strengthen our community for today and for future generations. Add your signature to the 774 signed commitment letters valuing $21,000,000 by sending an email to Lori Wishne at lori@jewishcolumbus.org

The Wellness Program of LifeCare Alliance is pleased to provide you with a convenient option to get your flu shot this year. On Sunday October 2, beginning at 9am, flu shots will be available outside the residence of Elana Burak (3045 Elbern Ave.) Please call Elana at (614) 437-2912 or email her at  eburak@lifecarealliance.org to let her know how many adults and/or children will be getting vaccinated so that we don’t run out.   She will let you know what paperwork to bring as any charges will be run through your insurance in the same way they would be if you were visiting your doctor’s office or local pharmacy.

Director of Wellness and Registered Nurse, Melinda Rowe, will be administering the flu shots in a “drive-thru” fashion. You won’t have to wait in a long line or deal with a crowded waiting room.   All COVID-19 safety protocols will be enforced. Children age 4 and up are eligible if they have received a flu shot in the past.  

Please note we are in network with most insurance companies but please let Elana know what insurance you have when scheduling
