For our toddlers through pre-school age we have supervised babysitting every Shabbat and Yom Tov morning. Their special room is outfitted with age-appropriate toys and books.
Pre-kindergarten through first grade students have their own special “primary congregation”. This group is led by Rachel Metz. Activities are divided among davening from the Artscroll Youth Siddur, learning about the parsha and games. All the children are given a snack during groups and are invited to join the congregation for Adon Alom and kiddush. A kiddie kiddush with special kid friendly food is set up every week alongside the congregational kiddush. Junior congregation is for children from second grade through sixth. This supervised group also spends their time davening, with children leading the davening, learning about the parsha and playing games. One of the things that sets Main Street Synagogue apart is how well we integrate our youth into our main service. The boys often lead the weekday, Shabbat and Yom Tov minyan in the main sanctuary. Everyone is encouraged to participate and to grow spiritually. |
