Our Senior Main Street Youth group is first class. Senior MSY, which is for grades 9 through 12, is an award-winning affiliate of the Central East region of the National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY). We participate in three regional shabbatonim each year and we have also hosted our share of events for the region. Shabbatonim give our children the opportunity to meet and make friends with Jewish teens from other cities around the area, to discuss issues of common interest, and to have fun. In addition, a chesed project is always part of a shabbaton.
Every year our Senior MSY group has one special shabbaton at Menorah Park. Menorah Park is a facility for senior citizens in Cleveland, Ohio. It provides living facilities from independent living to nursing home facilities. The teens travel to Cleveland to spend a weekend with the residents. It is a very intense weekend spent with the residents of Menorah Park and provides opportunities for both giving and getting. A favorite youth pastime is attending sporting events. MSY has taken trips to see the Columbus Crew (major league soccer), Bluejackets (NHL hockey), Clippers (minor league baseball) and the NFL Cleveland Browns. Senior MSY schedules an activity almost every week. One Friday evening each month, the group participates in the synagogue's Shabbat services, and then walks to the youth director's home for a scrumptious Friday Night Dinner, followed by songs, games and divrei Torah. Another great monthly program is “Jews and Java at Joe's” which is a meeting of the teens at a local coffee house (across the street) where the kids discuss contemporary issues with their youth director. Additional special teen Friday night dinners and Shabbat luncheons have been held with guests from Israel such as peers from Kfar Saba (our sister city) and members of the IDF. Social events like Melava Malke Movie Madness (Saturday night movies at rotating homes), succah party, bowling, ice skating, limo road rally, and a Superbowl party help round out the teen program.
